The use of worry stones is one of many folk practices that can function as psychologically healthy self-soothing exercises. This technique can replace any familiar, but destructive, coping methods (nail-biting, scratching, lip-biting, etc.) that you may have developed and can help you safely confront anxiety or trauma. Worry stones can also serve as a physical “relaxation script reminder” and you may notice an impulse to use the stone, thereby becoming aware of your anxiety and how it may be affecting you.
